KICKOFF!!!

Our very first post! So girls, this is our blog! I want you to ask questions here. I want you to discuss things here. If you want to post a topic here, I want you to do it! No topic, no question, no thought is off limits. I will use the scriptures and words of the prophets to find answers, and I hope you guys will use http://www.lds.org to find your answers as well and post them on this site! We are going to read and understand the Book of Mormon together and I couldn't be more excited!

I want you to know why I am doing this. It's because I love you. And I love the Savior. And I want you to know Him. In doing so, I know that you will know who you are. If you can know who you are at this age it will be easier to make the decisions that will come to you in life. Think about it... How much easier would life be if you truly knew that you belonged to our Savior, that you were purchased with his blood?

So do you belong to Him? Are you his Disciple?

There's one way to find out. The answer is there. It's in the pages you will read in the next 120 days. It's in the prayers that you will say. It's in the questions you will ask.

Off we go.

I am interested to know if anyone has an idea of the ages of Laman, Lemuel, and Nephi when they left Jerusalem. I think 1 Nephi 2:16 is an interesting verse as Nephi describes himself as "exceedingly young" and with a great desire to know the mysteries of God. Another testimony to me that we can feel the Spirit and begin to build upon our testimonies, even at very young ages.

Ooh, I think this is a great question for the bishop. Lehi and Sariah had other children while in the wilderness so the elder children couldn't have been that old. AND YET... they did go back for spouses...

And also, Nephi was considered a man of "large stature" and could easily be confused with Laban, he couldn't have been too young of a man, but I certainly agree that he couldn't have been much older than his early twenties.

What a neat idea Chris. You are such a great leader.

I don't know of any definitive statements regarding Nephi's age, but the details of the record lead me to believe that Nephi was in his teens, perhaps even early teens, when his family departed Jerusalem and went into the wilderness. This should be incredibly inspiring to our young men and young women. Nephi was wise, strong, and faithful as a young man. His instrumentality in obtaining the brass plates, teaching the gospel to his family, having prophetic visions, and eventually building the vessel of their deliverance to the promised land is another example among many that the Lord can and does use young people to fulfill his divine purposes. I believe that this kind of greatness can be achieved by the youth of our ward if they live as Nephi did in righteousness.
